The Lightning Bug

The lightning bug shines at night,
they help our love ones to the light.
To find thier way to heaven above,
and guide the path with their light of love.
A soft warm glow all through the night,
it brings our hearts such delight.
Because they bring our loved ones home,
so they will never be alone.

This is a well written and lovely poem about lightning bugs. I loved them when I was young, but you made me think of something--- I haven't seen them for a long time. Why are they so scarce now? Bev

What a gentle, tender poem. I grew up without lightning bugs, only having seen a few over the summer with a project in Missouri back in 1993. Haven't seen any since, and my life's much the poorer for it.

Thank Mark for the post. Too bad they are very interesting to watch. My motivation for the poem was watching them around a cemetery at night.
