Depression Sings

I will not be constrained within the arms of depression
So I push myself away from her
Rise from the bed
Wipe the smell of her from my limbs

I do not look back
lest I be turned to stone
She lays on the bed with her Medusa smile
Singing her siren's song
"Come to me, let me pleasure you
feel my softness
dive into my darkness."

My mind
Pauses
Craves
I'm drawn to her whisper
Longing to suckle at the breasts of her iniquity
Too wrap myself in pleasuristic pain
seeking solace
comfort
I cry to the heavens
deliver me from my demon
Do not allow her to devour me
Help me to crave a new light

I emerge renewed
cleansed
revitalized
Seeing beyond the lesser me
left in a state of thanks on bended knee
Light floods
The shadows flee
I have escaped
She didn't win
I was meant to be free

The other self was never me

I think this is the first personification of depression I have seen. Brilliant writing.

Depression within ones self is so all consuming and hard to break away from but on day I feel sad or depressed I just write to get myself through it. So glad in your authors notes to know you are not in a 'bad place' my friend.

I also struggle with depression, so this one hit home for me and is one to which I greatly related. I'm glad to read the footnote to see you are not in a bad place; I was momentarily worried. But you've penned a universal piece to which most of us can identify; kudos, Richard :)

Depression brings only darkness and pain and invites many to dive into her whem was is feeling fragile or alone..Yes anyone should fight her..by thinking of all things in a positive way.If We keep in mind that We are blessed and loved If We search for a friend in time when solitude mingles in our heart.Depression looses snd We win.I have my dad who suffers from depressiion and we suffer indirectly cause of thst..so i try to be positive so i never wear hus shioes..but be d opposite.Touching piece

Very true Charmaine, I find for myself that if I focus on others instead of myself I can pull myself away from depression.

WHAT AN AWESOME POEM! Oh.....if only I could be as strong. Depression often has me down for the count and the whole world turns black. I'm slowly trying to fight back. Thanks, Richard, for highlighting this in such a creative way. Much better than my poem in which I'm about to give up before the break of dawn.
