Winter Blues

Old winter's bite has bruised my cheek
like parchment my thin skin crackles.
Indoors I hide, my bones creak,
my fragile form in cold shackles.
Unwanted guest please desist, oh leave,
return the warmth of sunny skies
and springtime's gentle flowery weave.
Be gone, go, this aged maiden cries.
For I've no use for your howling,
your ice lakes or snowy trees;
there's no sense in all your growling
jail key's which rattle don't appease.

    Call me crazy, but I love autumn and winter. I know I'm younger and probably won't be saying this 20 years from now lol but I do appreciate what you are saying. My parents always go to Florida for the winter (when they can). Great poem, Debbie :)

    I live in Wisconsin and our winters can be brutal at times, so I understand perfectly! But, I do enjoy the quiet solitude of wintertime and the beauty that the snow brings. I really enjoyed this poem, Debbie! Very well expressed! I wish you the best of luck in the contest!...Thank you so much for my placement in your contest. I really appreciate the recognition!

    Oh, you are singing my song, Debbie, from one aged person to another one, I just cannot deal with the cold as I used to. Even down here in south Louisiana it becomes cold, sometimes in the twenties and even snows about once every ten or so years. Loved the poem, the rhyming was fantastic.

    Fav this one Debbie, I love how you tune your mind to proffer "This!" you never cease to astound me, I believe inside of you sweet Deb, there is a fresh flower that has been nurtured in your tender care, and in that special place, nor rain, nor snow nor sleet can ever touch the graceful petals of your essence, I love you sis, be good, and wear that all season smile, hugs xxx

    This one has great expressiveness within its lines..I could feel the cold and wind..Did the storm come that was being talked about on TV..Our Cody was to drive an 18 wheeler from Indiana to NY, NJ, and Connecticut starting on this past Sunday..He has never driven in snow and ice..I asked the Sunday School Class to pray for him and his truck broke down as soon as he pulled off the company parking lot..I hate that he got stuck again but glad that he wasn't driving in that weather..Sara
