Melody of the Lost

Tis' the rising mist of morning's grey,
surety of what I can't see, of what I am, and can't be.
Tis' the shadow of a tree,
bent; forlorn,
the branches broken; the hanging softly swayed.
And to the wood's music,
lonely; true
I'll dance and sing to my own music; mingled with the slow
beat of the earth.
The wood! My harp!
And from the canopy, strings of sunlight filter down.
I will tune them. I will play them,
in the hope that my song stay with them.
From the grey ... a golden harmony.

What am I but the space between them?
What am I but the briefest moment of mingling colors?
What am I in this infinite scene?...
but a chord that is struck; but a word that is written
And should my tune resonate far enough.
Should that melody be carried to the boughs,
I pray that it rests there, joining the song of a passer-by

Long after my bones be free and my soul reclaimed.

Caleb, it's no secret that I'm not a fan of free-verse, but you did an exceptional job with this piece. Free verse tends to bore me, but you captured and help my attention throughout the piece. Very good work, indeed ; kudos :)

That briefest moment of mingling colours and golden melody in between the early mist and ngrey..reminds me of a sunrise hue which peeps and warm the day. Those branches keeps reminding me of our human fragility..Its nice to be reminded that We are those broken branches and not the whole tree. What keeps us as humble enough.Re who you are and you cant be .Im sure you re all a man can be to those surrounding u and yr verses are better than the best.Tnks for stopping by. am fine tnks.So glad 2cu post
