Jackie Robinson

Supposedly we are all created equal But some are more equal than other How can that be and my question is why Aren't we all supposed to be brothers It's totally baffled me all my life Became aware of it in nineteen forty-six All the attention was on Jackie Robinson The baseball world was transfixed The colour barrier was down forever As out from the dark we emerged I'll never forget that season of awakening When finally discrimination was purged My hero, the super hero of my youth Lived and died with his success Till my very last breath I'll remember Jackie With this giant of a man I was obsessed © Jack Ellison 2013

I WILL NEVER FORGET IT!!! My dad and I were late arriving at his very first home game in April, 1946 with the Montreal Royals! The game was in the bottom of the first and as we emerged from the walkway, the crowd was cheering wildly! I turned to home plate and there was Jackie stealing home! WOO HOOO! What a thrill! The hero of my youth! Love ya xoxoxox

Dragon is beginning to notice the cut of one's worth... is made by their actions... and actions have consequences... Jackie Robinson passed racial barriers... and paid a price for doing it... with threats, ect... Yet he held his ground... Just like Rosa Parks... Only a dedicated, and determined person of great understanding can lead where no one else dares to tread... or even considers to go... Excellent poem... Dragon is agreeing... and the penguins... and Mike...
