On bated breath I wait, as he crosses the branch
I know very well, what belongs to the Cardinal
I hear a throaty chirp, he mesmerizes entrenches
And amuses me, and I love how he claims the forest
It is I who often disturbs the silence with my noise
But he, the little flirt, he knows how to wait in poise
Watching my frame on the wooden bench, he’s sleek
The way he tucks he beak underneath his folded wings
You would think he’s putting on a solitary show for me,
Well let me indulge him, I’m going to sit a little longer,
And then, I’ll have to go home….
