Trunks

I think that I shall soon not see
A forest, grove, a wood, or tree
Mostly now what's left are trunks
Of trees cut down by dirty skunks
The oxygen we got from trees
We'll get from water in our seas
Now, nature's balance is amiss
And we can thank the skunks for this

Inspired by Frank Jacob's poem "Trees"

your rhyme and rhythm are so spot-on in this funny but serious poem that it gave me a guilty laugh. ~ by the way, when i was in 6th grade, i had to recite the second half of "trees" on stage, which was mortifying to me (thanks to the "fools like me" line). it deserves to be parodied!
