Ordinary Chair

He sits down in an ordinary chair
Painted a powder blue
The rounded back feels familiar
Comfortable
Solid.
Much like his grandpa
Grandpa had sat on this same chair
Bounced him on his knee
Read him stories
It does not seem so very long ago
Time has a way of sneaking up on you
Now he's grandpa
Sitting in his favorite chair
Thinking
This is really quite extrordinary

A short and quite beautiful piece. I've recently experienced similar events: holding, admiring and sometimes using things owned by my predecessors, my mother's grandfather clock, for instance. Chairs seem to have more intimate meanings though, a body-to-spirit one... Jack

Had to come back to tell you this Rick, my Brit granpop was with the brit and canuks that entered Belsen (terrible) and brought back a set of spanners (wrenches to Americans) from one of the vehicles they transported the survivors in, which I now have. That is amazing Richard. You need to write a story or poem about it so that it is preserved.

I have my Grandpa's barber tools. The clippers are over 55 years old and they still work. They have been used by my grandpa my dad and now by me.
