Shantytown

Go on and picture this:
Jacksonville, Florida; the west side
It is where a lot of working families call home
And where southern-bred children learn about things like pride

It is where a young group of boys
Formed a band and had a dream in their hearts
They would make a lot of noise
On the Billboard music charts

They grew up in the hot Florida sunshine
Where there were good looking women,
Backwoods and the finest moonshine
That was made in the South

They started off as the One Percent Band
But that all of that changed
All thanks to a man
By the name of Leonard Skinner

Soon they changed their band name
Soon they were huge rock stars
They were known for their long hair
And their use of three guitars

And as Lynyrd Skynyrd they helped found the Southern Rock sound
They not only became a band from the South
But as a band from a shantytown
As front man Ronnie Van Zant would call it
