When I've seen so, so many
How can this winter night be so new
And when these times should be so plenty
How is it that they seem so few
And how quickly they flew.
Here, I must seem very strange
To be spied in the midst of the snow -
The chairs of summer rearranged
To watch the landscape change and grow -
The final days of autumn go.
The snow with soft muted sound
Gently coats each forest limb
And with stroke of white upon the ground
While lightly o're the pond it skims
Like scenes described in yuletide hymns.
This winter night I wish could share
The warmth it hides in midst of cold
Like wishes in a silent prayer
And secrets of the ages told
As all in peace it now enfolds.
