My little dog escaped her safe confines
And thoughtlessly dashed out to have some fun.
She was the happiest of little dogs
and didn't think it wrong to have a run.
I tried so hard to call her back to safety
But she was unaware of danger there.
A car was just a toy to run in front of,
And she was always one to take a dare.
The driver couldn't stop her car in time
And my dear pet was lying in the street.
I blame myself for having been so careless.
I hadn't taught her to come at my entreat.
I do so miss my happy little Muffin,
Who never met a stranger or a foe.
I hope she's happy in her doggy heaven,
And running free as hard as she can go.
