The song of the early morn

The song of the early morn.

The magpies warble tenderly
The doves they softly Coo
A Kookaburra in the trees
He laughs to the sky so blue
The fountains play a serenade
It’s the song of the early morn
Two ravens give out throaty caws
They know, twill soon be dawn.

The jasmine fills the morning air
With its wondrous pungent scent
The darkness it has gone to sleep
This morning it was meant
To mystify the willing soul
And get the heart to sing
A thousand magic shades of light
This morning, it does bring.

Geraniums of many hues
And perfume so, so sweet
They cover everything that grows
They don’t try to compete
[This be a merely human trait
To outshine everyone]
All the flowers want to do
Is strive to reach the sun.

Hi Peter, wishing you, vera and the family a Happy New Year. All the best to you all in 2014. Your song flows on my friend. It is always nice to see what life is like just before or at dawn. It's been many years since I have seen the early morn. You bring it alive as always Peter. Your words sing out on a morning breeze, a symphony of nature at its waking. Well it beats things here Peter, I'm usually woken by a twat on a motorbike. Have a good day. Catch you later. Your Friend always....MIKE.

wow, this is very lyrical. Such a sweet and happy poem and lovely how you made the flowers all striving just to touch the sun. Kind of like humans who strive to reach their God.

Beautiful poem cuz, just how mornings should be, nothing better than bird song at dawn, even in winter it's welcomed.

Beautiful!! I particularly loved the last stanza - all the flowers want to do is strive to reach the sun - how simple, and how natural their beautiful lives are, rt? I loved this poem!

a great Australian bush scene. I lived near bushland in Lilydale (Melbourne) and could smell the lemon scented gums on a hot summer morning as well as the Kookaburra's singing at dusk and dawn. I now live in Melton on the plains with little bushland around and miss those things.

Thank you Thomas. I was in the army in Healesville many years ago, and Lilydale always sticks out in my mind for some reason. Wonderful Cider comes from there. I appreciate your comments, my friend....peter
