A simpler time,
When life flowed free and easy,
Everyone was not in any hurry.
People took time to say hello, to their
Neighbors, with a friendlier air about them.
Now they'd sue you for harassment,
Or yell obscenities back.
Living unafraid, never having to
Make sure my house, or car doors
Were locked down.
No bars were ever placed upon windows,
Instead they remained open to allow fresh
Air to stream in.
Today one must always watch over
Your shoulder, hoping no bodies following
When our children felt safe, to go to school,
Without worries troubles.
Looking forward to learning something, or
Even playing at recess time.
Now parents drive by, just to make sure,
Everything is alright.
When armed security guards, didn't stand
Outside the doors, checking Id's to make
Sure that people were whom they said they were.
These things now I've taken for granted,
Public safety, friendly people, and a time
That mankind felt safe living within their
Community and homes.
Is it to late to return, to a gentler time and
Not as long as we can recall, memories
Reflections of days gone by.
