Oyster

Each day he sweeps the pavement clear

Of leaves and litter strewn around,

He spots a wallet on the ground

And picks it up; no one is near.

The wallet’s full of notes and coins -

An opened oyster shows its pearl -

He plans to have a pretty girl,

And feels a tingle in his loins.

He tastes her kisses, sees her smile…

The dinner leads to so much more…

Not lonely, like he was before…

She wears his ring, walks down the aisle…

But, no, he’s honest and sincere -

He shuts the wallet, stomach tight,

Will hand it in, he knows it’s right -

And sees his dreams all disappear…
