EVENING SONG

Chickens fluff feathers tuck heads under wings

cluck a soft lullaby to newly hatched babies

Restless cattle hooves still

as with grace hidden by lumbering girth

settle onto grassy pastures close bashful eyes

Dew amasses slowly contemplates falling

while drowsy sun gradually settles

under covers of night

Slowly awakening moon peels off

her diaphanous robe layer by layer

letting her full radiance glow

This is absolutely lovely! especially the restless cattle with their bashful eyes, I have always thought that way about them - bashful eyes:) and have you noticed their lashes, such lovely long cool lashes!! and the slow awakening moon peeling off her robe, Wow, Monterey, you rock!

Stunning, who would have thought a poem about a chicken and cows could be so beautiful.
