The heart of this poem is a gut wrenching truth that gives one either a feeling of hopelessness.....or on the other hand, the insight and vision to see beyond what is insignificant, and focus one's compassion and attention on the true meaning of life. I love the journey this takes me on.....I often have such moments like these of which you speak.....that makes me question what it's all about. loved this.....!

Congrats, found this again on "Featured Poem of the Week" page. Such overwhelming depth in this poem. Trudging through the muddy water trying to reconcile the past. Glad to read it again :)

this is a really evocative write, chris, written with the unique slant that you always bring to all your work...and how strange, reading this, that I can see echoes of my own poem - grandmother, cameos, spinning around sepia memories...I particularly like the last two lines which wrap the poem up well...and thanks for your comment; I always value your opinion, and yes it is the case that I've had criticism for using colour in poetry, but I continue to use it because I love colour within poetry!

Hi Chris Nice Write, When we view those muddy waters of our minds, is anything crystal clear any more In youth we thought we saw it all crystal clearl, we muddy the waters to hide our inadequacies perhaps!. Good to find that there is still life, love and faith Cheers Brian

Your free-verse stings--in a very great way. Amazing verse. The last three stanzas - I can say I agree and relate. Thanks for sharing, seriously. Always, Laura

Chris...enjoyed your blog visit above mine...this poem....I see so much of old Norwegian in the old neighborhood in Mpls. I grew up, Olaf was his name....After his Wife passed, he was lost....I used to drive him around to his favorite haunts in the '70' pick up little crosses to hand out, "praise the Lord" he liked to say...and outlet bread and "chicken nuggets" (all he ate) for some life got too busy...
