Killing Old Habits Before They Kill You

Change is an important part
Of making a brand new start
When you are trying to save
Yourself from an early grave
Because of all the abuse
Your body is going through
Pill popping is a routine
Drug filled needles so obscene
Leaving puncture holes and marks
Turning your world deep and dark
Alcohols another drug
Your stomach will always chug
Mild, hard, really extreme
Making you black out and dream
Of the next round you'll consume
Leading to more pain and gloom
Cuts across your legs and arms
Exploding like an open bomb
Bleeding out to release
Every hope and every piece
Of dignity you once displayed
Now it's gone with each new blade
Stopping will be very hard
But it's like a house of cards
Each step handled carefully
One at a time and you will see
Building yourself proud and tall
And not letting yourself fall
Back into habits that destroy
Making your temple full of joy

Yet, more often than not, these are modes of self-expression and a way to escape reality. If only the world (esp. these times) was a better place... Great piece, Robin.

This piece really hit home for me, Robin. As you know, I'm quite candid about my struggles with addiction and cutting. I saw myself throughout this poem and completely related to everything you said. Great piece <3

This is awesome. Not only because I can relate to many of the vices listed here, but also because it ends in hope. it is also very nicely written. Great job Robin, Im glad to have found this.
