The stress thats in the air

The stress that’s in the air

I saw two people quarrelling
Two neighbours these two were
They were screaming, cursing, yelling
It did the whole street stir
Such anger I had never seen
Not ever in my life
Some people’s minds to me, it seems
Are filled with so much strife.

I remember times when I was young
I lived in south east London
And where I was, was a real rough place
Where many came undone
But still the neighbours stuck together
And they’d treat each other right
But now it seems all trust has gone
And folk just want to fight.

It seems that everyone’s uptight
And no one seems to care
About those ones outside their lot
There’s distrust everywhere
But can they really help themselves?
The stress comes with the breeze
And floats around from soul to soul
As it robs the each of ease.

You nailed it here Peter... I'm sure the argument was over something petty...I see the same epidemic here in the USA and the scary thing is that often it turns to violence and fatalities...In my day, in a fight the worst that that could happen is you got a black eye or a bloody nose...These days, you can get yourself killed...Thanks for this - Tim

Thank you very much Tim. the argument was over something so trivial. It seems to me that the whole world is filled with resentment, and it is all so foolish, I appreciate your comments, my friend

This is one of the reasons I have imaginary friends Peter, lol, they never talk back to me, at least not in a cheeky way, enjoyed your poem, on a serious note, they've forgotten the gentle art of being graceful, to our fellow man, so sad xxx

Hi Rose, I gave up on people about twenty years ago, and no longer yearn for friends. My lady Vera is the only friend that I need these days. I found that most folk Take everythjing, and give nothing, and I have always been a very generous person. Thanks Rose for your comments, they are very much appreciated...peter

Enjoyed reading your creative work..I have noticed that attitudes are different everywhere now especially in the larger cities..I have no idea what has happened other than people have become more selfish in this small world of ours..Thanks for the visit to my page.Sara
