Rocks Late at Night

Stonehenge, upon first glance,
Rocks placed so carefully,
Smaller than you realize
Too close to people.
She seems too simple
An arch here
A fallen stone onto
Neatly cropped grass,
A clean path laid too close
A rope to keep us away.

How is it, in my minds eye,
She seems so vast?
As if I could wander
Between columns, lay upon stone,
Watch stars chase stars
And then still have more?

Lets abandon this place
As should be.
She cries out for neglect
She longs for the moss sodden
Land to reclaim her.
Her purpose was to raise
Our eyes to the heavens
And remind us that our
Feet are rooted in earth.
