The Redneck's Outdoor Kitchen

The Redneck’s Outdoor Kitchen

By Elton Camp

Ole Bubba wuz lookin’ at a home magazine
When one of them outdoor kitchens he seen

Now, he didn’t think that it had to be so hard
To make it where he could cook in the yard

Bubba made a late-night visit to a parking lot
From a grocery store, a shopping cart he got

Grinning, he nearly couldn’t believe his luck
And tossed it into the back of his pickup truck

He raced home before the sheriff could see
“Hit’s amzing’ whut you ken git fer free!”

A pile of firewood he placed below it
It was ready before you could know it

The next morning, Bubba could boast
About how he cooked his eggs and toast

“Them rich folks ain’t got nothin’ on me.
I’ve got my own outdoor kitchen, you see.”

Thanks, I can get by with writing something like that since I come from the same background as Bubba. I grew up hearing "mountain talk" here in North Alabama. We lived way out in the "sticks" and the nearest neighbors were snake handlers and tongue talkers with church meetings held in their house. Some of my close relatives lived in abject poverty.
