Misplaced Childhood

It was morning
and I found myself mourning,
for the child who'd disapeared.
In this court of illusions
I got caught in the madness;
my fatal flaw.

Now wrapped in sadness,
caressing the floor,
anonymity the honored guest.

Perhaps I should have guessed this outcome;

Perhaps

I have grown; a man, become.
Leaving innocence to groan
in defeat.

Tears, like dew, upon the glass
slip into memory; payment due, now paid.

This clew of life, unravelled,
with no clue of beginning or end.
I knew this death approached;
treated it as a new challenge to overcome.

Now I know;
No bravado can save me,
to late to write the rites to right my wrongs.
I abandon my childhood in graveyards of yesterday.

Shut away those screams.
