Daddy

Daddy

Daddy, why did you go away,
Don't you know I wanted you to stay!

Daddy, when you left mom,
Don't you know you left me too.
Now all I do is cry and cry
--- I want to die!

Daddy, mommy say's it's better this way,
What does she know!
There's not enough band-aids to cover up the blues
Mom's kisses can't heal this kind of pain.

Daddy, I look around
No one stands in your garage
Daddy, You took every tool
Except the hammer and sitting stool
Daddy, I still miss you
--- I love you.

***
***
Dear Daddy, I'm all grown up now
Haven't seen you since I was 10

Daddy, I sit on your favorite chair,
No longer do I miss the way you caressed my hair.
Daddy, I'm taking the old hammer and this BRAND NEW saw,
It's time to patch all the holes mom punched in the wall
*The day you walked out on us*
Daddy, don't worry about the times I tripped and fell
Mom, found someone to fix the loose boards,
Got tired of scraping my knees

Daddy, I finally realized I'm okay,
I agree with mom, it's better this way.

Great poem. Children suffer in as many ways as there are children affected. Then they grow up adapting, but with one leg always a little shorter than the other. You expressed it so well.

A very touching write PD. Missing Daddy at any stage of life is always a blow especially for the children. Parents do get separated due to their own pros and cons but the worst sufferers are the children. The left over tools of your father gives the symbolic pain you must have suffered and you have very beautifully projected that pain in this beautiful write PD. I have posted the concluding part of Mulberry tree and hope you would find it interesting. Love and best wishes...Ravindra K Kapoor

Hi Linda - I haven't been on Poetry Soup that much lately, but I just wanted to thank you for your kind words of encouragement about my poem that was featured last week. Your poem says so much. I liked that you wrote it in the voice of a young girl, and that she comes to the realization that her mother was right all along. If people could just move past emotional pain quicker ( and that is extremely hard to do), more positive could be accomplished in this world. Thanks again, Gail
