I Am

I am the oceans, the surf and the deepest blue
I am the bright blue sky
and the clouds as they dance.
The rich painted colours of sunset
I saw man crawl from his caves
I saw the flicker of fire, as it was tamed.

I saw his anger, felt his hatred
I was part of his wars
saw his blood spilt on foreign shores
from spears, bullets and swords.

I know the names of them all
The heroes, the tyrants.
I sat with Napoleon,
I ..... was his Waterloo.
I am the darkness
in the cellar with the Czar.

I am each and every bomb
that fell on the world
I am the screams of the injured,
the pain of the dying
I am stronger than death

I give nature its colours
I am its life
All that Is and Has been
Must start with Me

I am the oldest
I am the Father
I am.....

I wrote this poem as a challenge to myself. I wanted to write a strong poem to classical music. Lyrics for Beethoven I guess. Something that rolls and build into a stormy crescendo before settling back as the storm clouds clear. I hope I succeeded.

Thomas, wow.. I happen to think every poet needs to have an "I AM or AM I." poem... I read many by the way, and this by far is one of the best.. LOL, 10 times better than my Am I poem... How strong the concept and perception you give on Father Time... defeating all depth of time...excellent...Linda

thank you for that huge compliment, I love poetry and also read plenty. I find it awkward to compare my poetry with others simply because of the passion people pour into their own work. Each tells a story of emotion in whatever form it took at that moment. I gain inspiration from that. thank you again
