The Stars Tonight Are Scarce

The stars tonight are scarce But hell, every night they are scarce A city dweller longs crisp air But is forced to breathe in what is there It’s a shame really To be somewhere you don’t want to be… But hey, no one’s forcing me to stay here See, other elements are at play I believe more and more everyday That we are in the way of ourselves Our thoughts torment and jeer Though often we sugar-coat ourselves with cheer In a way, the stars tonight are scarce Because of me They don’t have to be scarce They could be multitudninous If only this half-hearted mind was free Man, for once I should really consider not being me!

Your poem reminds me of a Woody Allan quote to the effect that "my biggest wish is that I was someone else". Looks like we are stuck with ourselves. The stars are still out there although they are hard to see from urban locations. Keep the faith! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

We build the walls around ourself and often hold the key but never open the door. This is a truly touching and sincere piece. To see the stars in the desert without a light around is amazing. It's funny what you can see when not blinded by the light of society. Cheers ~Kilmer

I understand the feelings here. Craving for an escape and just embrace a wild & free set of winds. We are our worst enemy, if we allow ourselves to bed with fear every night. Fear embeds us when we start to think for ourselves. We do have the power of choice to make it right. Our choices make who we are. An excellent reflection here!

Hey Laura...how are ya gal? I've never lived in the city. The stars are always out in Nowhere. Of course, I know you aren't just talking about THOSE kind of stars only...are you? You ARE a star, even though you don't know it yet....you will. I can see you shining right now.

hi Laura, im a sad person I'm very bitter to know how scarce or deep the night is, the thing is the night is beauty even when only a few stars shine down. I never care to look up and see the beauty of the night. I'm afraid I won't see a single star, just cuz it's me looking up. a deep write. ..thanks for the awesome comment. .luv..linda

I think rather than considering not being you, Love, give this a try, Be the best you there is, cuz I know inside you Laura there is a treasure, a diamond so bright, scared out of it's light, and know this, I happen to love you're light, so shine it, shine it bright, blind the stars and put them to shame, claim your fame, let him anoint you with spiknard, hush, be well my dear, smile xxx
