Unscheduled Performance

Honking geese and loud barking dogs
An impolite disturbance just before dawn
There should be no morning traffic, or so I thought
Until a flock of Ansers declared, this is our spot
Escaped from their wetland, to my courtyard lush green
Tropical vapors set the scene, the overcast sky composed
The script, collaborting with the Northwestern spring

Golden retrievers barked again, the geese blared loud
Spreading tuxedo-ed wings an array of feathers cream and brown
Positioned in stances exposing thier pure white down
Honking vocals chorused by a few, who brazenly announced
We’re just passing through, their unscheduled performance
On a cool misty morning, turned the mundane into quite interesting

Karen-this sounds like a place I want to live in!! Truly, the sounds of animals I miss, though I have a cat and he purrs sometimes. Still- turning the mundane into a morning "quite interesting" is pretty much the way I want to see things. If I live more in the moment and less in my head, I am apt to see what's behind the mundane. One of my spiritual goals and not as easy as I imagined. Barbaraboyd

I love how you clearly express a reverence for the natural rights, and beauty of these wild yet sophisticated creatures my lovely friend - its funny, and perhaps tragic how many people fail to realize that wild animals factually possess more liberty than humans, yet those same humans often have a disdain for the truly 'free' creatures whils they submit themselves to senseless prohibitions & inhibitions via 'law codes' - J.A.B. %

I'd go to bed with a shotgun if I were you. I can't handle untimely barking and birdsong, especially the biggies you've described here. I love your rhyming style and your eloquence. Well done, my friend. Licia :-)

I liked the rhyme scheme that you used in this poem, and the flow of the words. Really great work!...I know what you mean, we have sand hill cranes and geese that can get very loud on early summer mornings. It can be so annoying when we are trying to sleep!

Enjoyed reading your creative work..It has very good poetic quality..I am glad that I chose this one to read today..I always look forward to hearing the Canadian Geese honking overhead but I have never seen them land around here..We do have several flocks of them or some that look just like Canadian Geese that live here year round now..Thanks for the visits to my page..Your comments are encouraging..Sara

This reminded me of my teenage years when we lived on a farm with a large pond. I used to love to sit near the pond, smoking a joint while playing guitar or writing poetry, and suddenly, along would come a gaggle of those shrill, honking harpies, disturbing my peace and serenity. You captured this feeling brilliantly; kudos, my friend :)
