About This Poem

Lake Bed Refractions

Others think my hair
      wild, untamed,
             needing a coif
when all about me the wind
       rustles
              through the fallen leaves…
red on gold,
               stamped brown,
                                         ethereal...
substance once there,
                                         gone
like soup
                           cooked for hours
to fight the chill,
                       tang of parsnip…
that’s the visible crop,
                                   bushy froth
while beneath soil,
                              fight
the war
for a strand or lock or two
of my being...
              heart untied from children
hands freed
to tap or zizzle a bow
across strings
what a jumble it all is
after the clean
                       prepped
                                     pampered
soul is emptied
                    scraped down to metal
my hair
                        unwound into myself
              swelling
                        as if a clogged pore
and I’m wondering...
                   is there is any
                         who know
how I look
                                          undressed.

The wild abandon of your line structure marries beautifully with the theme of this piece. A wonderfully extended metaphor. I enjoyed this a lot.

Oh wow......I am so glad I tapped into your poetry...this format, simply adds to the free-verse style, and clever use of your message.......self introspection is a difficult thing to admit. I will have to see more of your poems. And ps......thanks very much for the HM in your contest! :)

This was so well done both the message and the disjointed visual approach. I like it a lot. Thanks for listing my poem amongst the winners in your contest.

What a marvel, love your grand style and deep meaning. Thanks for appreciating my poem, thought to personify giving life to it-i.e attributing life to it and addressing it as human. Am honored for your noble visit. I.B.E

this is deep and sincere poetry. Very cool format. I am interested in knowing if you are British or American or another nationality. I have a poem in your contest and someone told me the word was misspelled, but it's correct by american standards!!
