A Spider's Web

“Now it appears to me that almost any Man may like the spider
spin from his own inwards his own airy Citadel.” – John Keats

the spider’s world was black and white
rules and laws
twisted and tangled every thread
like the heavy
winds that blew through her web

here is a new web
she has spun it well,
from her own inwards
it rises to the eaves where
no winds can veer

every morning she’ll slip down to greet
her friends the owl and the pussy-cat
they’ll frolic til the sun
sets and she climbs to her shimmering
nest in the blue
