About This Poem

Pain

Pain is too big for my skin
The only desperate release
A hole no larger than the head of a pin
Seeping tears with no relief
Eyes closed tight, aching grief

Every pore clamped shut
Armour of shame
Sharp edged pellets
Searing hot flame
I must contain

This storm will not unfold
Restrained by toughened flesh
It will churn and rage
Howl and crash
In my mouth a taste of ash

Pain is too big for my skin
It stretches and inflates
It would only take the prick of a pin
Purging entrails of inadequacy
For everyone to see

There will be composure
A calming of breath
A necessary death
Old limbs discarded
Mind steely guarded

The strength of ones mettle
Will eventually settle
Cast around cleared space
And after all that toil
Hope will spring from tended soil

Amazing poem, Sandra! I can feel every pain you described in this poem. And, I can relate to this. Very well done! You might like my poem titled, "Scarred Heart". Please, read it sometime. Also, thank you for reading my poem "Fading Away To Nothing", and for the kind comments. I really appreciate it!

If it is for the contest, please give once over to the first line ('to' too'). Acute feelings of pain. Good luck
