Sleepless Nights

Alone I stare in silence of the night
And shiver with the breeze caressing cold
The brilliance of the moon’s seductive light
Illuminates a painting to behold

A ring of pink surrounds its misty glow
As if embracing it in lover’s skies
I watch the love from my spot down below
Alone I gaze in awe with sleepy eyes

I think of him so many miles away
Awak’ning to the sun’s first gentle peep
His moon has disappeared into the day
And come to sweetly watch me while I sleep

And yet I slumber not, as still I swoon
With misty eyes I’m gazing at the moon

When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? (psalm 8:3-4)

You seem to have the general concept down fine Becca. You have tried to use meter as well, there are inconsistencies in the meter, the 3rd verse flows the best. Your TURN/VOLTA is in line 9 NICE The content is charming. If you want to work more on it you have my regular email. download & try VersePerfect its FREE it helps tons. Light & Love

It's very well written. Smooth flow and correct Iambic pentameter, synthesize the successful result. G.

Shades of Shakespeare once again invade your writing, this is mystical. How can someone who writes with such sultryism not like the word sultry haha. Take care, Richard

The interplay between sun and moon and how you see your friend in a different time zone is lovely. It's romantic and sweet. You have something special here.

Another beautifully expressed piece. The only real bump I experienced was with using "sultry"; while I see why you used it, it created a hiccup for me in the line. Personally, I would omit "sultry" just for the sake of flow, but I have great difficulty advising a fellow poet to change anything about their piece, as it makes me feel like a heel. Please forgive me for that. But it does not detract from the beauty and emotion of the piece. As I said, well done and well expressed. Kudos! :)

Thank for the feedback, but I've decided to stick with the original... thank you! and don't be afraid to say what you think about poems and offer advice ok?? It's really great!

Aw, you don't have to ask me to forgive you for sharing your opinion! I really appreciate it! To be honest, I agree with you that there is a bump there (I don't even like the word "sultry" haha) but just eliminating that word won’t do bc my syllable count will be off (ia pent) I really think I need to drop “full” and replace "sultry" with a 3 syllable word. I'll see what I can do. Thanks!

A sweeping, majestic poem. What a beautiful thought that the moon carries warmth from absent loved ones to soothe our lonely nights.
