It Wanders Silently Away

It searches desperately in desolate woods
As nightfall creates shadows among brambles and vines
Gnarled trees huddle together as if standing guard
Speaking in hushed tones with their branches intertwined

It wanders in the middle of seductive nightmares
Tries to blend in with the façade of friendly greeting
While watching them feast on the praise of their yield
Then wanders silently away, heartbroken and bleeding

It reaches out from the shadows into distant dreams
and wishes of respite from the nights of unknown
But never are the forces quite enough to be felt
It reaches out quietly and then waits all alone

Loneliness …

It meanders through the din with nothing more to say
Then blows through the trees… wandering silently away

Ms. Becca Loneliness is depicted as a sad spirit, unwelcomed, then sadly retreating to whence it came! 7 hugs, chuck

Powerful opening. You've given fresh clarity (through your choice of images) to a subject I obsess over. The third and fourth lines are particularly beautiful. And thank you for your comments on my two poems. The feedback is very much appreciated!

Its as if you stood in one spot writing as you observed nature at its best. I feel as though loneliness is good for a period of time. If one is accustomed to not being lonely then they will always depend on another individual. Just a thought that came to mind after reading this. ..Beautiful poem. :)

I hear what you're saying. I think alone and lonely are two different things. I can embrace "alone"... but when the feeling of loneliness comes, I don't much like it. But you're right, we shouldn't depend fully on another person to keep us from being lonely. We'll be let down a lot. Thanks Pace, for your thought-provoking comment. I appreciate your visits. .

As the others have shared here, you added heart to "Loneliness". Similar to the Tin Man who hadn't had a heart, but then did. To be lonely, is to be sensually empty. A want/need for more. Thought-provoking & very deep. Nicely done.

The way you wrote this, gives such life to loneliness, I see it as this wisp, even this gust of wind-- you captured it so eloquently here and one can relate to this. Wonderful fitting tone you used here, the last couplet was brilliant, Becca--thank you for your sweet comments. The sun finally broke through today. I hope all is well with you too and sending you hugs. oh, nothing much, when I saw your title, Jars of Clay song, "loneliness & alcohol' popped to mind, had to listen to it now.

I hadn't heard of this song, and Jars of Clay is one of my top three favorite bands! I just found a live version on youtube, is this a new song coming on their new album? I can't wait! It sounds like some of their older work. :) Thanks for writing Nikko, I'm glad the sun is shining for you today. Big hugs
