Squally wind

There he was amongst the throngs of people filing up and down the city streets -
Amidst the clicking and clatter of the many shoes on cobblestone where-
Buses and cars and ringing bells, motorbikes and crying babes in strollers moving
Musician’s and their instrument and open with velvet cases hopeful of a coin of gratitude-
Begging for the public to listen while they strummed endlessly on their guitars
Busy people going somewhere in an attempt to look important and wise
Students filled with life and promise and their gallant laughter and smiles
Lovers wrestling kisses in the public eye wild and vernally ripe
But there was one thing that caught my eye it was sad and disrupting
It was the sickened man rotting in the corner with filthy clothes -
And his toes as black as the dirt he must have walked in
At first I thought it was a bag of discarded trash and then my eyes widened
There no one seemed to noticed him-
They just passed him by as though it was a cast stone statute in the park
Curled up in a state of trauma surrendered to life in a bitter way
Lying on the street’s with nothing but a shredded nimble of clothes on his back -
Borrowed at best he gave up and craved in to his disease
My heart broke into pieces to think how we as a society have familiarized ourselves to their existence –
So much so that we just pass them by without a flutter of an eyelash
Although the warm sun was caressing my face that summer day
I felt a rush of frigid air press through my blood that rattled my soul-
Empty Like that of a tin can, a frozen tear fell from my eye

Love this piece you have penned. Yes, it seems people tend to avoid and overlook fellow beings. I know it brings tears to my eyes because this happens way to often. Nicely said Laura. love phyl

A good narration of kaleidoscope of city where people rush and live devoid of compassion to fellow beings, Laura , felt well.

WOW-- so much here that brings all our senses to the fore. I have seen this, and felt the same twist of cold and pity-- street people are a common sight where we live. As you say, sometimes they just give up. Great write..

This was a potent writing, yet so full of sad truths. We claim to have clarity within our eyes, yet we turn a blind one when we see something we don't understand or accept. It's a painful thing. Huge respect to you for writing on a sensitive topic matter...
