Empty Promises

before desolate
wanton misery’s
imagery abides
where once
joyful life
reigned,

behind consent’s
mistaken sounds
memories pass
within time’s
continual
strain,

beneath deep
yawning canyons
inner darkness’
afore vacant
hope died
inside,

beyond distant
stark starry-eyed
earnest dreams
quiet breaths
unwilling
reside,

amidst silence’
mindless behest
thoughts eager
truth mirrors
perfect
lies,

whilst tearless
empty promise’s
spoken words
oft awaken
infinite
sighs.
