Girl, Interrupted

Girl, Interrupted-

Deep cuts from within.
She faced bravely the many hardships of womanly life.
How did she end up here?
Severe depression after her first mental breakdown.
Sorrow oppressed what was left.
Now in the parallel universe,
Never aware of the world left behind.
She will catch a brief glimpse of this world where everything is different.

Losing the veil in which includes time,
Aging without caring death awaits!
Her different personality replaces reality.
Things appear normal in her the eye.

Although captivate in her own mind,
She feels this is freedom.

Being heavily burdened--
Every day she stares into different mirrors,
Smiling in her bipolar face.
Without knowing insanity put her mind at ease.

~SKAT~

Such a somber but moving poem of depth and perception, .......depression is the enemy of so many women....often hidden with shame......but a stalking presence. This is a great poem of truth.

I like the use of stark words that truly describes what a person feels when they are truly depressed. It is truly an invisible burden others who do not understand will not see. I like how the mirror changes everyday while she calmly faces each days change. Very moving, but I am biased on this poem. I hope you have more like this one.

Ahhh . . . In a situation such as this, Skat, it is a blessing insanity has given her peace. For what is the alternative. Really.

You have placed a light directly on a subject that is hardly ever talked about in open society. There is nothing shameful about mental illness in any of its forms and you have written a wonderful poem that is so deep but also very sweet and caring. Nicely done; SKAT
