People make such a fuss about death.
You might think it was the worse
calamity to befall them, the end
of their world, in fact. I can think
of things far worse, and often do.
You'd be amazed at just how many
truly terrible things are out there
to give you serious concern; then
you'd understand just how trivial
death really is.
I know you'll all want to thank me
for broaching a subject no one
dares to talk about. But, listen,
once you have focused on the really
urgent things and start worrying
in earnest, you'll see death
very differently – really nothing
more than very tiny blemish
on the fact of our existence.
And when you see death as I do,
you'll want to thank me. But please
no letters, phone calls, or e-mails.
I am happy (elated, really) knowing
I was able to take your mind off
so common and trivial an event
as death, and get you started worrying
about matters for more relevant
and life-endangering – things really
worth your time and thought.
For starters, learning how to live
without the fear of death.
