Tangled Vines

Tangled vines that intertwine,
climb and strangle as they grow.
They cannot thrive without their host,
yet smother what provides them life
until they both collapse and die
and rot there on the forest floor.

There before His grace go I,
one tangled in broken promises;
one with lies allowed to grow
and wrap around the willing host
until too late - no breath to cry
for help to those who are not there...

    Craig, now I must tell you.... I was just about to write something for this contest when I ran up against this entry of yours. Now I realize I would be writing for a 2nd place rating at best. This is surely a winner. The sheer love of writing may bring something from my pen... Sincerely, yours is a class entry and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it this afternoon.... Congratulations.... In advance..... Jake

    Craig I enjoyed reading this tonight. You've described tangled vines very well and you've sprinkled in a little moral wisdom too. Best wishes in the contest. Warm Smiles, Connie

    craig, this flows like the artist's brush painting the scene of tangled vines and it's stunning how you've compared them to entanglements in our morals. Very finely crafted :)
