He Makes Honey

He flits from flower to flower
Delirious by the prospect of nectar
Zoned in on reaping
He visits the flowers
Different colors
Different shapes and sizes
Different textures…
He goes deep
In to where it lies
Collecting
Letting it cling to him
Sticky sweetness
He doesn’t leave
Till he has soaked it up
Ever last drop

He doesn’t stay a minute longer
Than when he has harvested
To his fill
When the flower has given all
She could give
He tires of her
And flies away
To feast on another prey
To lick all her sweetness away
And the flower is left to wonder
If she will survive the bitter sting
Of knowing
That her essence
Is the honey
That to others he brings.

At 51 I have learned I know much less. The good thing is that when this life is over we will have an eternity to continue learning. Are you just getting up now? What time is it in your part of the world?

WOW girl; This is amazing. I like it. They say that the bee that gets the honey is the one that makes the money. Thanks for sharing.... Lucilla

The Bee not only takes the nectre it leaves behind the pollin. Without the bee and the flower life for both would cease to exist. And we would not have that delicious honey.

Well, now that is another way to see it, isn't it? You are a clever man, Richard...but we all knew that already....still...do remember the very stationary and welcoming stance of the flower....it's the bees that keep flying around. Oh well....live and learn. At 46...I still have a lot to learn!

I just loved how you brought the bee into light, as sweet as honey is, the bee follows the sweetness of the flower down into its core! Such are the things of which we desire, they can be so delightful and wanting, thus to us as sweet as honey and the flower! I may not be as mighty as the bee, but I would like to think I go after the flowers of life, to create honey! I really enjoyed reading this amazing poem this evening! Great Work!!

I'm glad for the take you took on this poem, Russell. Flowers do intoxicate, don't thy. Fly on...and glean what you can. Thanks for your encouraging words.

Wonderful, you described the life of a bee as a thing of beauty, love, and heartbreak. Thank you for your comments on my poem A Secret Never Told. To answer your question, yes it is true

Monterey, I'm sorry to know that it was true, but your presence was a blessing to help her to the other side. That is the light you need to see it in. Hugs

Yes...I see the little trails they leave here and then. Just when a flower starts thinking she's all that, off they flit to another....men! No steadfastness in them at all....Generally speaking of course. Yes...B words do fit. Thanks for the visit, Richard.
