Her brittle hands

Another layer of lavender scented lotion
Rubbed in vehement laughter

A quelling of sadness
Covered up in mascara insanity
Livid strokes of feathered paintbrushes

Hoping to see the big picture

She cried like oil paintings without a purpose.

A treasure hunter searching for rubbery remedies
Without heart’s sanctified atrium
To light the way

She bled from carnivorous pores
Bites against feeding palms
Struggling licks upon pacifier wounds

Mouth
Shut

Stone’s lonely lyric
Thrown against fragile lighthouses
Beaming through unacceptable horizons

Investigation of deity’s hidden agenda,
She questions validation’s esophagus

Its vocal chords
Torn

Another squeeze from lavender bottle
Empty
Its exhales shedding infantile whisper

…

A bounced reality check
Declaring that it wasn’t a disease
That afflicted her bones

She cried like oil paintings without a purpose. Looks like someone already has given you praise for this fine line of poetry--but I will concur. The interest to me is the body beneath the hands...this piece would be enriched as a two part...give one part to the other body in the story....could be lover, could be her baby...well done, Drake.

Such a unique style you have. Another great one. I dunno if you know who Justin Bordner is, but I think you may like his poetry(he's on the soup). Anyhow, it was just a thought. Deep, gripping words in every verse. Loved! Always, Laura

If I were to read between the lines, (maybe more than I should), I feel so sorry for her.....that there is something beyond her control, that she covers with lotion, mascara, frantic insanity, anything she can do to drown the reality.....but perhaps that is how we all "deal" with what is dished out to us if we must survive it? Wow....great poem!

Well, did I drive your mind or what? :) Now, having said your perspective, I have to agree. It is a pretty sad state of affairs. I've met a few like this. Grown adults, young & old. While I'm familiar with the whole "fake it til you make it" approach, I think I've outgrown that. For some, I know it's all they have...sadly. Thank you for your awesome comments, Carrie! :)
