Hollow Man

He walked along the barbs of life
Slowly what had filled him
Drained away
Seeped out upon the ground
Hollowed him
Dried him out
Turned his heart to dust

He looked the same
The shell remained
The carefully manicured facade
Then came the winds
The winds of change
Blowing him away
Or possibly towards
His reconstitution

Hollow man
Refilled
Redefined
Heart pumping
Excited
Dreaming
Laughing and crying
A spirit now flying
Insides no longer dying
Inside filled to overflowing
Muck had been released
Inside white as fleece

Sometimes what's inside
Needs to be washed away
An empty cup can be refilled
Purified
Electrified
Freed from false pride
Heart freed when love is applied
Opened with nothing to hide
Living once again
Enjoying the ride.

Hollow man
Is now okay
Not empty like yesterday

Such a wonderful poem Richard. I especially like the first three lines of the second stanza, you've put it so beautifully, with an excellent choice of words!! And I'm glad the hollow man is no more hollow in the end! :D

This is excellent Rick. Guess we've all picked up those barbs somewhere along the line, sadly for some the winds do not blow them all away, you just hide them in the reconstruction. Take care, Richard

Sadly many reconstruct on a faulty crumbling foundation.

Richard, The first verse is incredible depicting how we all must feel at some points in life. I pondered through this more than once finding the treasure of hope and inspiration that everything turned out okay for the hollow man. Great write :)

Reading this reminded me of those hollow milk chocolate rabbits sold just before Easter. Bite into one, and there's nothing but air. Good way to describe those persons who have nothing inside of them.

I always felt so ripped of and somehow they are even thinner now.

Very deep and meaningful, Richard. Reminds me of one of my favorite poems by T.S. Elliot...We are the Hollow Men. Google it if you have the time and the inclination...the first stanza is amazing. Enjoyed this read...as always! Take care.

It's amazing what a little roller coaster can do to one's inner appetite. Excellent lines! Soupmail. :)

Rick, this is an awesome poem you have written, I can relate to it, sometimes when life strikes a person down there is no where to go but up, well done, constance
