She stretched her tiny arms up high.
There it sat on a dusty shelf.
Looking around she let out a sigh
wishing she could reach it herself.
A lovely lady of porcelain and lace
in a gingham dress with smoky brown eyes.
She was looking pretty from her lofty place
and the small girl knew it was just her size!
In this little shop of barter and loan
wishes were many yet she just had one.
That this dolly would be her own.
She just knew they'd have such fun!
Her mama came and let out a smile;
scooped the doll down for her little girl
dug around in her purse a short while
as her daughter did an ecstatic twirl!
