Ruins Rise

bone like trees line streets of Hiroshima
sentinels, scratching the sky,
winter clipped memories ...

life from death arose
springing eternally up
rooting ever down
often bubbling forth from ruins
shadowing the beggar’s bride

who spits on the graves
but mad men dance and war on
bone tree remind us

*kimo, tanka, senryu

My, I would have placed this one much higher! I learn so much from your poetry, Debbie - especially shorter, Japanese style poems. Your kimo gave me goosebumps. Congrats!

and a ps......my gratitude that you found my poem to fit your "being" To Be" contest requirements.......wasn't sure if it were to subtle...or too vague.......but it was a hard one to write, in the sense it was based on, or from one of the darkest nights I have experienced, ever. .Accepting what was unacceptable.....can be and is the most difficult task. Thank you for this honor!

Wow......heavy......laden with so much shameful history, but so brilliantly shaped into these three outstanding poems, ...united into one amazing testament. Not sure which I would pick as my favorite.....all the above......!!!

You blended the three very nicely together, though my personal favorite was the Kimo in the beginning. "sentinels, scratching the sky" << love! :)

nice.sense like a moderate shouting at war. afterall poetry is a quest for peace and love.

P.S. -- I nearly forgot. The middle stanza reads like a tanka. Was this done on purpose?

Well written, Debbie. The theme is similar to wot I might write about. Ironic, considering your recent blog about cliches, because you've taken some cliches(in a good way)and re-invented them as your own....which is all we can do, since everything truly has been written before. We can only now write it differently. Taking cliches and re-inventing them, is wot separates the cream from the milk(<-----cliche, lol!). Life is a cliche. It can be cliche to pretend not to use cliches ha ha!
