Can't Forget

I look at the older work
with an odd sense
of apprehension.
It's embarrassing to say
the very least.
All my newer pieces
are so much more
well put together:

better crafted,
less forcible rhymes,
more meaningful messages,
less redundant phrasing,
a greater variety of topics,
a more open minded
mentality.

I reminisce thinking,
"Was that my reality
just a mere two years ago?"
Sometimes I just wanna toss it in the fire
and warm my hands by the biting flames.
Fare the well my more naive self:
Sayonara, adios,
au revoir, aloha!
May we never meet again!

Then of course I conjure up images:
how ridiculous would that be
being born in a eighteen-year-old body?
I can't forget the steps I took (and still take)
that lead to what you see
currently.

Not the same here without you. Some craziness in your absence. Hope all is well with you.

Thanks Kirin. I don't believe a writer will ever reach his/her peak... that is if the passion remains. With each new piece we are growing...

I think we mentioned how things and perceptions change with age a little while back Tim. I'm sure time will only improve your work. I was looking for some of my old poems and I can't find the box, could be elsewhere, if I find them I'll post one of mine, for a laugh. Take care, Richard

know how you feel. Sometimes I look at some of my older stuff and think, "Was I REALLy that silly!?" (Of course the answer was yes.) But when I see your older poetry I still see wisdom there and greatness! With time you'll just keep getting even better!

Well you should my REALLY old work... I'm not sure if you'd be calling it "wisdom" then... ha ha ha. You're one of my biggest supporters, Caleah! And your comments are always very insightful and entertaining to read!

My History of Poetry writing is not that long, although I do identify with some of my first pieces.. I want to cringe when I read them. Loved this honest poem. I need to ask.. you post a poem or three virtually every day-- that is amazing, but where does all your inspiration.. and time come from?

Yes... I do over-post a bit, ha ha. Not sure what to say other then I have loads of free-time when I'm not working. I'm more easily contented than most... always appreciate your visits.

Little One, don't you ever think about thrashing your old writes...just as you said, they have all led you to where you are today. Thanks for sharing all your poems, Tim. Always, Annalise

you raise a good point here - i think we all may be surprised by some of our older work (i shudder when i read the few pieces i've saved of what i wrote when i was your age!) but that's part of what made us who we are today and you have years ahead of you to keep changing. i'm enjoying the stage you're at now, though!

As pitiful as some of my older stuff is, it's nice to keep as an example of how far I've come. Thanks for always stopping by!
