The blooms wore out in fading light;
opaque the molecules of air,
and that continuum brought night,
returning beasts and men to lair.
The faded blooms transmit in blur,
defined on sepia to last,
a phase unreal to incur
engraved our words on soul's mold cast.
Chrysanthemums became dark shades;
perfumed the night in minds to nest,
You laughed; My entity erewhile evades
to be night solitude's best guest.
Neglected was the feast of ne'er
- and passing years augment the count,
I made your laugh my solemn flare,
and builder of a lone surmount.
This longing turned my pride to be,
a reason to avoid the fair
invited guest and cedar tree
while void in front absorbed my stare.
