A STRANGER'S LONELY GLANCE

I walk down the road of life
Peppered with multitudes of problems and strife
I am tired and broken, need a little sleep
But I don’t even get a kind look, or a smile to keep

It’s a long winding road with curves dangerous and tight
With not a ray of light or a pleasant sight
I trudge along trying to look for at least a familiar face
But of known people, I see not a trace

I try to gather the memories of a time happy and wild
When I was younger and carefree like a child
But what come to me are thoughts of all that went wrong
All my mistakes, my follies, always a sad song

I did have people I cared about
Whom I thought I could never live without
But all they saw in me was a monster with a bad gait
Even when I tried to help, they would sting me like a krait

I keep wandering through my life’s wilderness
Where I feel thorns prick, never a flower’s tenderness
Never the caress of the mother, who left me to die
In this cruel world, all I could do was cry

I beg to the passing world to help me stand
Help me make amends and be a better man
But no one helps me; no one gives me a chance
All the world sees is a stranger’s lonely glance
