An Old, But New Despair

.

Brooding clouds languished low, and were consoling the hills,
where the sky rumbled softly, in reverie's call
By chance one small stumble, had shadowed our mood
we found two shrouded headstones deep under the leaves

Where the sky rumbled softly, in reverie's call
from a day blithe and buoyant, carefree and fun
we found two shrouded headstones deep under leaves
with names carved in granite in lone solitude

From a day blithe and buoyant, carefree and fun
I felt sudden anguish, arise from the past
with names carved in granite, in lone solitude
We resurrected despair, it was ours now to bear

I felt sudden anguish, arise from the graves
Who could they be, this mother and child?
We resurrected despair, it was ours now to bear
The sky rumbled softly, in reverie's call

Who could they be, this mother and child?
By chance one small stumble, had shadowed our mood
The sky rumbled softly, in reverie's call
Brooding clouds languished low, and were consoling the hills
.........

i'm not crazy about this form of poetry (i know it's for a contest, though) but i think you've beautifully created a sad and powerful mood in your poem. i was able to picture it so perfectly and felt like i was there with you.
