Deadly Illusions

Wake Up My Children! Wake Up!
A creature of many faces stalks you,
A human chameleon devoid of soul.
He hides not in the shadowy corner,
But among you, under the unwary eye.
Do not be fooled by this great pretender;
A white hat may adorn his head,
But blackness fills his vacant heart.

Be wise my children! Beware!
He's the crown prince of trickery.
He's the grand master of disguise.
This creature can masquerade in godly robes
while writhing painfully under their holiness.
Evil can spout prophetic words like a tribune
while the lie festers under his tongue.
He's a true disciple of the damned.

Wake up my children! Wake up!
Do not be mesmerized by this alluring creature.
With his apparent straight talk and honesty
He can make you a mindless believer.
But he's a liar and a charlatan.
He hides behind a wall of illusion,
Preying on the fears of the ignorant,
And captivating the ears of the innocent.

An open heart is susceptible. Belief floods into its open chambers and disrupts the flow. We can close the dampers with distant thoughts but still the damaged heart leaks and fears as you say, penetrate and captivate

Captivating read, Kim. We are often lulled by our own complacency and fail to be wary of those who parade as angels of light, but who are from the evil one. Thanks for waking us up! :) BTW...Thanks for your latest comments. I have read and responded and am pleased by your visits! :)

Thank you again. This one was done by a younger me as well, but I remember what inspired this one.

Wonderful description of evil that can so often put on an innocent face to deceive. SuZ

This is a very well penned piece on the deceiptful nature of Satan-- disguised in one of his many disguises. Thanks for sharing.

Nefarious people can certainly be decieving. You have captured the essence of narcisism and control very well here. This could apply to a number of powerful positions that sway people with their illusions.

wow! Kim, the scenery pulled me away from the hustle and bustle of this deadly illusion taking place. I visualized mindless believers prancing around from the children's mind. I allowed myself to think of a movie, were the illusionist preyed on the fears and mind of all the innocents. I guess one can committed the perfect crime behind a wall of illusion. This is a very good poem, very gripping and mesmerizing once you hear the "Wake up my children! Wake up!" over and over~ Linda

I am glad you liked the poem Linda. This is one of my older pieces that I had to fine tune a bit before putting it up here on the soup.
