Chance of Fate

We met on a basketball court.
You were a cheerleader,
me ... an athlete from your rival school.
I don't know if I'd ever noticed you before.
Had you ever noticed me?
I'm sure you noticed me when I crashed into you,
after diving for a ball.
We didn't know it, but it wouldn't be the last time my sweaty body
was on top of you.
As much as I wanted to stay there,
I helped you up with a wink ... did you see it?
Knowing I should be doing something else,
all I could see myself doing was pressing you against the wall,
and laying one on ya!
Instead, I burned your face into my mind and said,
"I'll be back for you later."
Less than two years from then, you were my wife.
You've been my wife for eleven years now.
You've given me two children, and all of yourself.
Myself, I can see in many places, but never without you.
If lost, I'd crash Hell's gates to find you again.
My only hope in death is that we are partners in the afterlife.
For if God himself came to take you, I'd have to say,
"Take a hike, God ... she's mine!
And I'm hers."

This sure is romantic in its own right and with your own flavor and your wife sure is so blessed to have you and you are blessed to have her as well-- she sounds amazing. It's so great to read love stories such as yours, makes me smile. A belated Happy Mother's day to her! I hope more have love stories such as yours, Mr. and Mrs. Smith :)

Sounds like a real winner to me! Such sincerity in this, with no holding back. Just awesome! I don't believe the reference, mentioning God, is disrespectful. He made us in his image and WE have a sense of humor... so he should too. My dad was telling me a story in the bible. A bunch of people were worshiping a pagan god and he wasn't answering their prayers. Jesus said to them, something of the like "Maybe he's on vacation, pray a little louder!"... not word for word, but you get the picture.

PS..God does have a sense of humor...I think its in Daniel...somewhere..God sent just a hand to write on a wall to someone doing wrong and it made them wet their britches! that's funny.. thing before he was cool...

Caleb...this is so amazing! A basketball player and a cheerleader! Doesn't get more Hollywoodish than that. I mean that in a nice way! Great write...though, I'd be careful about telling God to take a hike! ;) You better be happy He has a sense of humor!

Lovely account of true love acknowledged through the passing of time. I guess God would see the love you have for one another-- Eternity will definitely be yours together.
