We met on a basketball court.
You were a cheerleader,
me ... an athlete from your rival school.
I don't know if I'd ever noticed you before.
Had you ever noticed me?
I'm sure you noticed me when I crashed into you,
after diving for a ball.
We didn't know it, but it wouldn't be the last time my sweaty body
was on top of you.
As much as I wanted to stay there,
I helped you up with a wink ... did you see it?
Knowing I should be doing something else,
all I could see myself doing was pressing you against the wall,
and laying one on ya!
Instead, I burned your face into my mind and said,
"I'll be back for you later."
Less than two years from then, you were my wife.
You've been my wife for eleven years now.
You've given me two children, and all of yourself.
Myself, I can see in many places, but never without you.
If lost, I'd crash Hell's gates to find you again.
My only hope in death is that we are partners in the afterlife.
For if God himself came to take you, I'd have to say,
"Take a hike, God ... she's mine!
And I'm hers."
