trash dump filled
little green sprouts from moisture
dies from fumes

trash emptied
fresh grass sprouts beautifully
something seen

a small can
glistening atop the grass
never dies

I really like this. It is your environmental statement that works with subtlety. Bravo!

Interesting and creative. I used to have a monthly job of cleaning the highway so it's safe to say that litter irritates me! You express the fragility of what's really alive compared to something artificial and man-made, that refuses to go away. Nice message to take better of our trash! I wonder what you could call this trio of haiku?

When I read this I feel a sadness. The sadness gives birth to hope, and then beauty. In the end, you remind me that even though there is beauty now, the sadness it was born from never dies. a delicate image of grass growing out of a garbage pit. Very moving.

Hi Laura - I have been "so busy" to read your brother David's poems in the the last few days, and forget you ...... lol. - (Sorry) - We have a dog that needs to go out walks three times a day - and I see it as you describe it: Litter everywhere. - A good poem Laura. - oxox / / Anne-Lise :)
