Depression

Twinges of familiar sadness
Threaten to overpower my very being
Can I truly be unseen?
Perhaps I never wanted them to intervene
Silence is all I can give you now
As I absorb all of my thoughts
They rot in my very soul. . .
They burn me into gruel and nothingness
I feel the urge to sleep
To somehow escape the. . .depression
That is exactly what it is
I cannot escape it
I don't want to try. . .
I guess I want to be alone
Yet somehow my soul is screaming for your comfort
That you never give
I just don't want to live. . .
It can truly be unseen
Somehow I know that is what I want
But not what I expect. . .
Sad, isn't it?

Low as low can be
I never wanted these feelings
These feelings wanted me. . .

*not sure if this should be a rhyme or free-verse...it's a bit sporadic..*

A heartfelt write Laura ... there are many of us that can relate...xXx ...... just remember life comes in waves and the pessimist in us sees the next trough whereas the optimist in us sees the next crest...

Laura, you have captured the heavy and intense feeling of depression. It is like a black hole's gravitational field--impossible to escape from (without help). You are so gifted a writer that I must always come here to revel in your words. Your line about wanting to be alone but screaming for someone's comfort is so interesting. I hope you have lots of hugs in your life. Here's one from me to you--->[XX].

I felt the isolation and the last line is so powerful.

It enters and overpowers. We become one with it, as though it will make us stronger in the end, but that never really happens, just the slow decline of hope, then morality fades. I don't think these words are helping. I enjoy your poem because I understand it and it's well written. Sometimes writing it out does help, and sometimes it seems as nothing will help. I think time heals many things, and love can heal anything. I hope you find peace soon. Thanks for your previos comment.
