Crazy

He smiled once but the smile got broken
Leaving his mouth in a downward curve
There once was laughter
So very long ago
Now his room is filled with silence
The pieces of him have been rearranged
All of him is there yet no one sees him
A shattered mind
Strangled spirit
Unable to be shocked back
No reset button to push
He wears his white jacket with five foot arms
Sits in his pillowed room
Rocking to an unheard beat
Unable to connect with the outside world
Who is to blame?
Was he too fragile?
A freak of nature?
Somehow deserving of this fate?
We may never know
His voice has been taken away
The spark has left his eyes
His happy ending has been taken away
Crazy
That's what they say
So they lock him away

Richard This is a very deep and intense write. You pull the reader into a world of illness that a lot of people are dealing with. Every single line and verse is emotional and tugs at the heartstrings. Nice job Thanks for the nice comment on my Shot Away Dreams poem. Don't worry, that did not really happen. Hugs

Well, I'll be darned. Yet another "free-verse" (which I usually abhor) that is actually quite good. I think my problem is that I have been exposed to too many terrible free-verse poems that were lauded as "wonderful". One by one, poet by poet, you are all making me re-evaluate my biases based solely on the fact that everyone here has true, innate talent. Thanks to you, sir; a great read that is helping me change my mind :)

Rick... you have written about something that hits home with me beyond belief. Wow. It is hard for me to discuss this subject, I avoid it like the plague a vast majority of the time, but I know how it feels to live with mental illness, to feel isolated, and to feel like a freak and a reject... thank you for writing this, to say the least. You're amazing. <3

I have family who suffer from Mental illness so I have had first hand experience. I think it has helped me see people from a more human perspective and less judgemental. No one is really normal. Normal is boring.

What an unsettling topic. It's hard to define what's crazy and what's not... I mean who's to say what's normal? Especially after all the heavy dosage of drugs they inject inside him. Well penned! Also I have replied to each and everyone of your comments on my works if you want to check them out...

This is good Richard, but sad - It's no fun to be locked away in a nut house. Thanks for sharing...... Lucilla

I work in the mental health field. Your words reflect a reality for too many people. Sad write, but effective. Rick
