If I Speak with the Tongue of Men and of Angels

Even angel whispers
And angel testimonies
Are counted much as nothing
If love brings no harmony

Even heaven’s atmosphere
Will not refresh the soul
If there is no love to offer
Healing to make you whole

Even the song of angels
Will not sooth or calm
If there is no love to heal
There is no other balm

“Love is patient,
love is kind.”
It does not bring
Tears that blind

“It does not envy
It does not boast”
It does not harm those
That it loves most

“It does not dishonor
It is not proud”
It does not shame
It does not cloud

“It keeps no record of wrongs
It always protects”
It does not try to wound
And it most never rejects

“Does not rejoice in evil
But rejoices with the truth”
Does not try to demean
By words that are uncouth

“It always hopes
And it perseveres”
It does not fill
Broken hearts with fears

“Love never fails”
This much I know
Whether real or imagined
Love abates sin's flow

This pure kind of love
Is divine but real
With our stone cold hearts
It's so hard to feel

Angels weep and they sigh
For they SEE love in HIS eyes
The kind of love that never ends
That wears no mask or disguise

If I speak with the tongue of angels
And I know all prophecy
Yet I can’t be forgiving
Of what has been done to me

If I claim to know all mysteries
And yet I fail to comprehend
That humans are prone to err
My love is not heaven sent.

“Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” I Corithians 13

Stanza 5, I think you meant "it" for the start of each line. Great message eloquently expressed as always.

We all do, Richard. The Bible says: "There is no one who is righteous, no not ONE." We tend to forget...we tend not to give the benefit of the doubt..and we tend to wound. Some wounds heal...but scars are forever. Thank you for being someone who has never done that. :) Your last poem is amazing.
